Start off clicking on "Menu | Network | PupDial modem dialup".

Next, enter the information from your provider.

DSL

First you should check if the ethernet-interface was detected.
Start a shell ("Menu | Utility | Rxvt terminal emulator") and enter the following command:
ifconfig

Can you see "eth0"?

If you can not see "eth0" enter the following command:
ifconfig eth0 up

To check if the ethernet-interface is available now, enter the following command:
ifconfig

Now you should see "eth0". Close the shell.
Start the program "Menu | Network | Roaring Penguin PPPoE".

Press the button "SETUP".

Enter your username (ask your provider), then press the return-key.

Enter the ethernet interface. eth0 is usually correct so you can press the return-key.

At the next question you confirm the default "no" and press the return-key.

Then you have to enter your IP adress. If you get a dynamic IP adress press the return-key only.

Now enter your password (ask your provider).

Enter your password again.

Choose "1" as a "standalone" firewall.

Now you can see your input again. If everything is alrigth press the key "y".

If you want to connect the internet-connection press the button "Start".

A message box opens and you get connected. Press the return-key.

You can now open the Internet browser "Menu | Internet | SeaMonkey Webbrowser". Enter a URL and see if the Internet site is displayed.

If you want to disconnect the internet-connection press the button "Stop".

A message box opens and you get disconnected. Press the return-key.

Wireless LAN

To connect your Puppy to a wireless network take the following steps: Step 1

Click on the "connect" icon on your Desktop, then click "Connect to the Internet by network interface"

.....OR.......

Click on Menu / Setup / Network Wizard

If Puppy recognizes your interface, it will be displayed in the upper portion of the box.

Just click the button for your interface and see step 2 below.

If puppy does not see your interface you will have to load the appropriate module with the Load Module button

If you are unsure, click the "more" tab to Auto-probe drivers, or to install a Windows driver.

After you have loaded the correct module for your interface, it will show up in the first box seen above.

Click on it and proceed to step 2

Configuring Network Interface

Click the Wireless button

Click Scan ( Or enter the information for your interface if you know it)

Click on your Network from the list that appears . Click Save. Enter your WEP / WPA key if on a secured network.

Then click Use This Profile. Click the Test button to see if Puppy see`s a "live" connection. If it does, then click

Auto DHCP. If successful Puppy will ask you if you want to save the configuration for next boot. Choose yes or no.

Click Done on the box that appears, and you`re all set!

What about people who use PCs in public places? Long Beach’s Boccia says a lot depends on what the PC will let you do which you might be able to determine only by trial and error. Boccia states, “Unfortunately, there is no visual cue to alert the user of what type of security the machine is using, unless the person is pretty tech-savvy and knows what to look for.”

Tips for using public PCs include:

- Check how the PC is set up. What operating system is it using? (XP is obviously better for the reasons given above.) It shouldn’t let you poke around in the system settings such as the control panel and user accounts. Ironically, the less you can do on the PC, the better it’s well-locked down.

You might even look behind the machine for any keylogger devices attached to the keyboard cable, where it plugs into the PC. For more on keyloggers, read the Bright Hub article, “Risky business, using kiosk computers.”

- Avoid tasks such as online banking and credit card purchases that might leave sensitive information behind. But if you must do so, uncheck any box offering to remember your information and change your passwords as soon as you are on a PC you know is secure.

- If you have access to browser options that let you clear the cache and wipe out cookies, you should use them. The best systems warn you that they will clear stored information such as cookies when you exit.

- If you need to save a document, it’s up to you to bring a flash drive to store it on or e-mail it to yourself and then delete it from the public PC. Be sure to empty Windows Trash.

Take similar precautions when using public Wi-Fi networks. For example, log into a user account without administrative rights when browsing on a public Wi-Fi network, Boccia says. “You don’t need admin rights just to browse the Web, create a document, and do e-mail, especially at a public wireless hotspot (or as I call it, surfing with sharks).”

I can only guess that it’s simply because so many other people are using them. In order to get free premium Rapidshare accounts, which let you download unlimited amounts of files, users upload their own files onto Rapidshare, hoping enough people download them in turn so that the uploaders can earn enough premium points to qualify for a free account.

But it doesn’t have to be that complicated. You can get unlimited Rapidshare downloads more simply.

What you are going to do is request a new IP address from your ISP. This is assuming that you do not subscribe to an Internet service with fixed IP addresses.

First, figure out what your current IP address is by going to IP Chicken. Write down the series of numbers that are displayed. This is your current IP address.

Then, follow the steps below to get a new IP:

1. Go to Start->Run and type in “cmd” without quotes to bring up the command prompt. Hit Enter.

2. Type in “ipconfig /flushdns” without quotes and hit Enter.

3. Type in “ipconfig /release” without quotes and hit Enter.

4. Type in “ipconfig /renew” without quotes and hit Enter. You should now have a new IP address. Check your IP address at IP Chicken again and compare it to the one you got earlier.

5. Now, erase your browser’s cache and cookies.

6. Try downloading the Rapidshare or Megaupload file again.
